Misc 1.7 tidbits
From Doctacosa

Last day of the year, and one last update to wrap things up! Here are a few things to note since our move to Minecraft 1.7.

Resource pack updates
A new resource pack update has been published today for the Standard and Notato editions. This fixes the lack of in-game music and features four new tracks for the game's title screen. Downloads are provided on the resource pack page. Those who accepted the server's recommendation should be prompted to update at their next login.

Overworld surface map deleted
A lot of exploration has been done since the move to 1.7 a few days ago, and the map's size has grown accordingly. In order to free up some much needed disk space, I've removed the surface (3D) version of the overworld map, which is the largest by far. It will possibly return once a future map trim is performed.

Mesa biomes
I'm aware that, despite the best efforts of many fearless explorers, no mesa biomes have been sighted yet. As such, I've begun planning an alternative if none are discovered shortly. In any case, don't worry: we WILL have a mesa to behold and plunder soon enough!

If you haven't read my previous update about 1.7, please do so now. It contains several important notes about the update and some of the changes performed on the server.

Server updated to 1.7!
From Doctacosa

This is the time you've been waiting for: the server has been updated to Minecraft 1.7! You can now select 1.7.4 in your client and join us for some fun! There are a few important things to note, so please read on for more details.

The server's main map is there as before, obviously. At a general request, I've changed the generation mode for new chunks to large biomes. This means that all newly generated areas will feature larger biomes than before, creating a somewhat more realistic landscape and allowing people to create massive builds that don't spill over different environments. Of course, this means that you might need to travel further out to encounter new areas.

If you're not in a rush to discover the new biomes, I suggest you wait some more still. We're planning rails leading people from the core areas into the new chunks!

A border has been added to the world, visible as a red circle on the map. It's large, with a LOT of room for growth, and exists merely to simplify future server administration tasks. This barrier can't be crossed, as you'll bounce if you attempt to do so. All previously explored areas are within this new limit.

As I've alluded to in the past, two new parallel worlds will be introduced! One will be an amplified map, featuring crazy landscapes and an higher difficulty level for an added challenge. The other is a returning surprise, at the request of a few players. I'm still performing preparation work on that front, and will open them in a week or two. More to come!

New as of 1.7 are server resource pack recommendations. When you login to the server for the first time, it will offer you to download and use our own pack. The regular edition will be used for this, while alternatives will still be available from the resource pack page.

Please note that the map is regenerating and will be fully available within the next few hours.

Enjoy! :-D

UPDATE: The sounds from the various resource packs don't work as of MC 1.7. Fortunately, we have Sphenicus to the rescue with new versions! Please redownload at your convenience!

Server upgrades, 1.7 status
From Doctacosa

Thanks to a string of generous donations lately, I'm happy to announce that the server's memory capacity has been increased by 33% and the disk space by 60%! The memory increase will allow smoother gameplay when more players are online at once along with a higher players cap, while the storage increase will allow us to continue to grow and even add parallel worlds to play on. More information on that last point will be available once the update to 1.7 is done.

For more information on donations as well as other ways to help the server, please see the Help page!

Plans for the 1.7 update
I've been running tests in the past several days with Minecraft 1.7 and have been making good progress. As such, unless I face major troubles, I'm planning to update the server on the 26th or 27th of December. This will involve a downtime of several hours while I take care of everything. Thank you for your understanding!

December! Free Christmas cards! Lag update!
From Doctacosa

It's December, month of the Christmas holidays in a large part of the world, and it's time to celebrate!

I've decided to send Christmas cards to anyone who wants one! Locate the giant holiday mailbox in Central (next to the Community Center), submit your address and you'll get a card in the mail! Full instructions are provided next to it.

Lag update - it's about gone!
I'm happy to report that the lag issues that have been plagging the server are pretty much gone! This took a while to track down, and I'd like to thank everyone who helped me test this through numerous server restarts. There will still be slowdowns occasionally, especially when multiple players are online, but the worst of it is behind us! For those interested, I've made a forum topic with more technical information.
